Suminagashi (Floating Ink) Prints!
Now that I’m done with graduate school, my website is back up..hoping to slowly update and add more blog posts!
Last month while on a graduation-celebration vacation in Santa Fe, NM I took a suminagashi ( floating ink) class from Heather Batts at @ldbastudio . This is traditional Japanese paper marbling, which is less structured than European versions of the art form. It’s truly mesmerizing .. there is so much to say about how capturing the colored ripples of water illuminates designs seen in nature, and subtle shifts in the environment ( a breeze, a piece of dirt, a bubble in the paper) are permanently captured in the final piece, much like life itself . Lessons in openness and surrender abound. I can already see myself bringing this into both my personal and professional practices. So happy I stumbled into this beautiful shop in Santa Fe, thank you Heather 💓
